Unpacking the mind — Behind Rocketium Products.

Last week, while grabbing a chai with Nafees, our Head of Design at Rocketium, we stumbled upon an interesting topic. We chatted about the different ways people think and how it shapes our work.

Team Rocketium :)

It got me thinking: in the world of product creation & building a platform, there are a few distinct types of thinkers. They’re the ones who, when combined, make all the magic happen behind the scene.

Let me break it down into three simple categories that I’ve observed:

Dreamers, Doers and Connectors.

1. Dreamers (AKA Visionary)

Dreamers are those brimming with innovative ideas. Their minds constantly race with the question, “What if?” Whether it’s a team lunch or a casual meeting, they’re often the ones doodling grand ideas on whatever paper they find.

While they’re undoubtedly filled with enthusiasm and energy, Dreamers can sometimes venture too far into the realm of imagination.

Yet, their value is undeniable. Dreamers are typically creatives like sales / designers. They challenge the norm, urging us all to think outside the box.

2. Doers (Taking a cue from Realists)

Doers are the go-to people when you want to get things done. Give them a concept, and they’re already plotting the path to its realization. They’re the solid ground amidst the ever-evolving whirlwind of ideas. If someone’s ever stopped you mid-pitch to ask, “That’s innovative, but how do we turn it into reality?” — you’ve spoken to a Doer.

Our team leans on Doers. They’re the guardians of our objectives, ensuring every step we take is in sync with our larger goals. Their grounded nature is a strength, but it can sometimes be mistaken for hesitancy. It’s not that they’re resistant to change; they just want to ensure every move is calculated and strategic.

During ideation sessions or Product Discovery phases, the Doer’s grounded perspective is invaluable. They act as our compass, ensuring we never drift too far from our core mission. By allocating focused, uninterrupted time for Doers to dive deep, especially within clear parameters, we often witness the birth of truly transformative solutions.

It’s common to find Doers wearing hats like solution architects and customer-product success roles. They’re the champions of clarity, detail orientation, and systematic planning. Armed with a first-principles approach, they dissect problems to their core, always hunting for efficient and streamlined solutions. They’re not just about identifying issues; they’re about crafting swift, effective solutions that optimize operations.

3. Connectors (Taking Insights from the Network Brain)

Connectors are our team’s circuit board experts. They have a knack for seeing how different components, much like in a tech stack, fit together. Ever noticed someone drawing parallels between an old algorithm and a current challenge? Or suggesting that two modules can integrate seamlessly for optimised performance? That’s classic Connector behaviour.

Within Rocketium, Connectors play a pivotal role. They ensure our products aren’t siloed but work together like well-integrated software modules. While they excel at drawing connections, sometimes their tech-driven analogies can get a bit intricate, making others take a moment to catch up.

You’ll often find Connectors amidst our engineering or product management teams. They’re the ones who ensure that our tech solutions, be it codebases, frameworks, or platforms, interface smoothly. They’re essentially the architects of our tech ecosystem, ensuring every line of code has its place and purpose.

Our Director of Customer Success, Srijan Kumud, once aptly said,

“Every individual brings something unique to the table. It’s about channeling that uniqueness effectively.” And he couldn’t be more right.

In essence, we all carry a mix of the Dreamer, Doer, and Connector within us. Recognizing our dominant trait and collaborating with those who complement us is the secret sauce.

It’s this synergy, this blend of diverse thinkers, that brings our best products to life at Rocketium.
